Maranatha to host women’s ‘Holiday Dessert 2005’ (2025)

The Women’s Ministry at Maranatha Chapel will set the mood for the holiday season with two elegant candlelight celebrations of “Holiday Dessert 2005” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 11 at the church, 10752 Coastwood Road.

Each year the women choose a theme that keeps the focus of the holidays on God and his blessings through Christ. The theme for this year’s event is “The Glory of the Lord.” Bible teacher and pastor’s wife Vicki Bentley will present a brief holiday message. Christian recording artists The Wickham Family will perform selections from their Christmas CD. The menu includes festive desserts, coffee and tea. Tickets are $15 and are available at the church or by calling (858) 613-7805.

Chalice Press has just released a new book by Dr. Bruce Humphrey, senior pastor of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church. “Ministry on Fire” is a mixture of biblical wisdom and experiential advice on how leaders can generate momentum and foster a climate of cooperation, trust, growth and excitement within their spheres of influence. Humphrey explores the lives of Biblical leaders for lessons on leadership. He ties their experiences with his own to present principles on servant leadership, building trust, non-competitive incentives, balancing time, and cultivating a personal relationship with God. Ken Blanchard, co-author of “The One Minute Manager” wrote the foreword to the book and in it he says that Humphrey’s insights will “help churches all over the country come alive” and make “a positive difference” in the world. Rabbi Baruch Lederman of Congregation Kehillas Torah invites Jewish young people to a Sunday morning program that integrates faith, outreach, learning and fun. The group is called “ToTal” and meets at the Doubletree Hotel in Rancho Penasquitos. A beekeeper with a honeycomb visited the class recently and showed the students how honey is made. Since honey is an essential ingredient in celebrations of the Jewish New Year, this demonstration tied into the Rosh Hashanah festivities, and according to Lederman, all the students delighted in sampling the honey right from the comb. The students then made greeting cards with wishes for a “sweet” New Year and sent them to Jewish families from New Orleans who had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. If you would like to learn more about this group and its upcoming programs, call (858) 613-0222 or go to www.kehillastorah.org.

In addition to Taylor’s talk, the program will feature a jewelry fashion show with items from the Diamond Gallery. Tickets are $20 and include lunch and parking. The Child Centered Church at 13380 Poway Road specializes in services and programs that cater to all types of families — the traditional two-parent home, the single parent home and the blended home. Pastors Steve and Gail Albert bring to their ministry a mixture of teaching and experience from the perspective of Religious Science, Unitarianism and secular education. Their goal is to help individuals grow in virtue and family units grow in unity through effective, honest communication and interaction. One of the ways the congregation does this is by keeping the family unit together during worship services and allowing the young people to offer prayers, light candles, and interactively participate. If you would like to learn more about this church, go to www.childcenteredchurch.org or call (858) 487-8885.
