ELAINE VERONA (BRANDMIRE) MALLING, age 84, of Waseca passed away, Wednesday, June 13, 2024 at Colony Court Assisted Living.Born on March 8, 1940 in Janesville, Elaine was the daughter of Albert and Verona (Pieper) Brandmire. She attended and graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville. She furthered her education at Concordia College in St. Paul, receiving a certification in education. She was united in marriage to Loren Alvin Malling on September 2, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.Elaine worked as a teacher for two years before staying home to raise her children when they were young. She returned to work as a secretary for the Waseca Schools and Vocational Center. She then worked for Waseca County in the court services, auditor's and court administrator's offices. She volunteered briefly for the schools to help children read, but her time was cut short due to COVID. Elaine has been an election judge since her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, knitting, crocheting, and traveling with her son. She was a member of Trinty Lutheran Church in Wilton Township.Elaine is survived by her children, Heidi (Becky) Malling of Sebeka, Tim (Laurey) Malling of Paynesville; grandchildren, Amelia, Erik, Maggie, Noah, Levi; siblings, Yvonne Priebe of Waseca, Myrna (Gordon) Hurttgam of St. Cloud, Marietta (Robert) Hildebrandt of Waconia, Karen Zimmerman of Waseca; and many other relatives. Denise Mary (Hunziker) Stensgard passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Regions Hospital in Sain Paul, Minnesota.Denise was born in Mankato, Minnesota on January 23, 1961 to Jack and Jean Hunziker. She graduated from Mankato East High School in 1979 and from Mankato State College in 1985.Denise married the love of her life, Paul Stensgard on June10, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. DOREEN MAE WHITE, age 99, of Waseca passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at New Richland Care Center.Born on May 1, 1925, in Sherburn, MN, Doreen was the daughter of Bernard "Ben" and Clara (Eisenmenger) Leibfried. She attended Sherburn High School and graduated as valedictorian with the class of 1943. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in education at the College of St. Catherine. Following her education, she began teaching at Good Counsel Academy in Mankato. While living in Mankato she met her future husband, Thomas White and they were united in marriage on November 11, 1950, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Sherburn. Doreen and Tom began their life together living on a farm in rural Madison Lake before moving to Northeast Minneapolis. Doreen continued her teaching career in Centerville for a short time before taking a teaching position at Hopkins, retiring in 1997. In 2007, they moved to Waseca to be closer to their daughter, Marijo. In her free time, Doreen enjoyed reading, gardening, animals, knitting, and traveling with her family. She was the matriarch of her family, and she treasured the time spent with them. She will be remembered as a voice of reason, and as a peacemaker while always maintaining her gentle, mild and meek manner. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served as a eucharistic minister to the homebound. Later in life she joined the Secular Franciscans. Doreen is survived by her daughter, Marijo (Tim) Fischer of Waseca; sister, Harriet Fignar of Inver Grove Heights; cherished nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas White; parents, Bernard and Clara Leibfried; brothers, Daryl Leibfried, Arthur Leibfried, Ronald Leibfried; stepbrother, John Skillings. They were blessed with a son, Isaac, on September 10, 2022 and will be welcoming a second, Andrew, in the upcoming weeks. Shane loved his job and coworkers at Rambow in New London where he was employed as a Sales Representative. Shane was a proud member of the Waterville Indians Baseball Team and loved to compete on the field, but, enjoyed the camaraderie off the field with his teammates even more. Shane enjoyed sports of all kinds - especially Minnesota teams. Shane had a wealth of friends from high school, college, work, baseball and the golf course. More than anything he loved Amanda, Isaac and Andrew, they were the light of his life. Guy Robert Thomas Milbrath peacefully passed away on June 5th, 2024. Born on July 27th, 2005, almost four months premature, he spent his early years in Cresco, IA before relocating with his family to Mankato, MN. A senior at Mankato East High School, Guy defied the odds daily, challenging conventions throughout his life and puzzling even world renown medical teams.Despite significant chronic illness and being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Guy's love for life was evident and beautiful. He would greet you with a smile and a giggle, and even if it was at 4am, his happiness was infectious. He cherished chocolate, Elmo, and potato oles above all else, his expressive face a testament to his joy. Guy radiated joy, but had plenty of sass and stubbornness to balance. If he didn't want to do his school work or eat his vegetables, he made sure his feelings were known! Guy brightened the lives of those around him. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. DELORES BERNITA WILMES died peacefully surrounded by her family at Whispering Creek Nursing Home in Janesville on June 8, 2024 at the age of 90.Delores was born in LeRay Township, Blue Earth County, on October 8, 1933 to Rudolph and Clara (DeVlaeminck) Linde. She graduated from Janesville High School with the class of 1951. On August 2, 1955, Delores was married to Stanley Wilmes at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. As a young woman she worked for several years at Bausch and Lomb Optical in Mankato, and later at Carlson Craft and seasonally at Bird's Eye Foods in Waseca, but the vocation she was passionate about in this life was that of a homemaker and loving, dedicated farm wife. She enjoyed caring for her lawn and home, playing cards, and visiting the casino. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in St Clair for more than 50 years, and she will be dearly missed by those who loved her.Delores is survived by her husband Stanley Wilmes of Janesville; her children, Steven (Cheryle) Wilmes of St. Clair, Janelle (Jim) Prochaska of Mankato, and Kristine (Carl) Brown of Walker; three siblings, Barb Fischer of Minnesota Lake, Bev Froehlich of Janesville, and Karen Linde of Janesville; and a sister-in-law, Pat Linde of St. Clair. She was also proud of her five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. James "Jim" Weber, age 94 of Le Center passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Rivers Edge Hospital in St. Peter. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13 from 9:30-11:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, all held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center with Father Tom Margevicius. Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center will be following the luncheon.James was born on August 8, 1929 in Minneapolis to Frank and Mabel Weber. Jim's primary and secondary education were at St. Mary's and McKinley High School in Le Center, plus St. John's prep school in Collegeville, MN. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy in 1957. During this journey, he also added a degree in Commercial Art.He actively practiced Pharmacy for 50 years. Jim owned and managed Weber Drug Store in Le Center, MN for 25 years from 1960 to 1986. At that time, he became a consultant/relief pharmacist until his retirement in 2007. From 2014 until present, Jim resided at Horizon Place in Le Center, MN.Jim met Jean Lhotka in Minneapolis while attending art school. They were united in marriage on September 16, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center. Her love for web design started when she was 14, teaching herself how to code so she could create a website for an up-and-coming country trio. Throughout the years she took interest in various other artists and television personalities and was actively involved in those fan clubs. As a devoted and loyal fan, she was a leader in the fan club community. She attended concerts, meet and greets, races, etc. Some of her adventures took her to California, Texas, Chicago, and on a Caribbean Cruise. Nicole worked for 11 years at a local non-profit before finding her happy place in the aisles of Menards. She enjoyed decorating and renovating her home, creating a cozy haven for herself and her dog of 12 years, Boomer. He was a loyal companion and a constant source of love and comfort in Nicole's life. As we reflect on the loss of a life cut short, we find solace in knowing that Nicole was happy and loved. Her infectious laughter and humor brightened our lives and touched our hearts. Margaret "Maggie" Ann Klaus, 77, of Owatonna, died Monday, June 3, 2024 at Timberdale Trace Assisted Living after a courageous battle against Frontal Temporal Dementia and ALS.She was born November 25, 1946 in Mankato, Minnesota to Ervin and Helen (Schultz) Olson. She was a graduate of Mapleton High School in 1964 and Mankato State College in 1968. She then married Lynn Duncanson in 1971 and later divorced. On June 26, 1999, Margaret married John Klaus of Owatonna, and they made their home in Owatonna. Maggie spent her career teaching elementary school, first at Anoka-Hennepin School District in 1969-1971. Then, in Mankato, in 1971-2004. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she served as a lector, and eucharistic minister, and was also a member of Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin near Park Rapids. In retirement, winters were spent enjoying time and the warm sunshine in North Fort Meyers, Florida. Maggie loved watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Gopher football, and the Minnesota Vikings. John and Maggie were season ticket holders for the Gopher Football for 25 years. She was an avid reader, very fond of music (especially country music), participated in a recipe club and was a volunteer for Grandparents in Education. Playing bridge with friends, doing crossword puzzles, and sewing brought enjoyment to her life. Spending time with family and friends to create special memories was her greatest passion. Jeannie Youngs, age 86, of North Mankato, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Friday, May 17, 2024.Jeannie was born on July 6, 1937, in Holbæk, Denmark to Fanny Nielsen and Aksel Kristoffersen. She moved to America in 1960 and her home in North Mankato remained her primary residence until her death. Jeannie was very proud of her Danish heritage and liked to collect Danish souvenirs and knickknacks (even drinking coffee out of a mug emblazoned with a Danish flag and inscribed with the words: I know I'm perfect. I'm Danish!). She would periodically return to Denmark on vacation to visit family; and at times her family would also come to visit her here in the States. Jeannie worked at Mankato Corporation, now known as Perfecseal, in Mankato until her retirement in 2005. She remained close friends with many of her co-workers and would continue to visit with them well after retirement, either on the phone or meeting them for breakfast at Perkins. One of Jeannie's favorite past times was gardening. She would often spend several hours a day planting flowers, trimming bushes, and decorating her yard with various cute ornaments. Jeannie also enjoyed what she referred to as "putzing around the house" and making the inside of her house as nice and tidy as the outside. She loved to go on casual bike rides throughout lower North Mankato, often to Spring Lake Park, for exercise; and during her retirement she occasionally liked going to the casino for some modest gambling fun. Jeannie had a heart of gold. She showed an unwavering, unconditional love for her three boys, no matter the circ*mstances; and even in times when money was tight, her sons never went without or felt deprived in any way. Jeannie was also an avid animal lover. She had many pets throughout her lifetime and loved them all, especially her beloved cat Shirley, with whom Jeannie spent 21 joyous years until Shirley's passing in 2017. Jeannie's compassion for animals was incredibly deep, and she would become visibly upset at even the thought of their suffering. Jeannie is survived by her son Erik Youngs of North Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Eleanor; her brothers Max and Jan; and her sons Micheal Youngs and John Youngs. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Sister Gladys Schmitz, SSND, 98, died June 2, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community - Windermere, Shakopee, MN. Sister Gladys was born in Mankato in 1925. She attended SS. Peter & Paul elementary school and Loyola High School, graduating in 1943. She then attended St. Teresa College in Winona and earned her BA in 1947. She taught high school math and science classes for two years at Sanborn, Minnesota High School and then returned to St. Teresa as an inorganic chemistry instructor and lab supervisor. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1951 and professed first vows in 1953. She taught high school science classes until 1970, including Good Counsel Academy (1963-66). She then transitioned to nursing, and became an RN in 1974. From 1974 until 1993 she served in various capacities as an RN in the Chicago area. She also helped begin Sisterhouse, a home for women recently released from prison. From 1993 until her move to Shakopee in 2022 she was a member of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation team at Good Counsel in Mankato. She was recognized for acting on her beliefs - as a silent weekly war protester, as an avid letter-writer and author of articles stating her position, and as an organizer of events promoting justice issues. Sister Gladys is survived by a brother, Jim and his wife, Rose, nieces and nephews, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame and SSND Associates. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Clara (Dorn) Schmitz and her sisters, Joan Schmitz and Clarice Schmitz. He served four years in the United States Air Force. He was a deputy sheriff for Blue Earth County MN and retired in 2001 after 35 years of service. He also had the patience to tame the wildest cat that showed up on the farm. Rometo George Macias, 101, of Singer Island Florida, born October 17, 1922, passed away Monday, May 27th 2024 in West Palm Beach after his family tucked him into bed."Rummy", son of Manuel and Lupe Macias, proceeded by eight siblings, and loving Husband of Ruth Macias. He is survived by his sons, David of Prior Lake, MN, Brett of Naas Ireland, daughter Pam of Bonita Springs, FL, and granddaughter Ada Maxine.After his phenomenal collegiate wrestling career which included two time Big Ten Champion for Iowa University, he began the MSU Wrestling program in 1950. For 38 years Rummy coached 93 All-Americans, 19 National Champions, inducted to 16 wrestling halls of fame, and inspired countless lives of people who went on to have successful lives. In 1988 he retired to Singer Island, FL where he took up playing and teaching golf. He gave lessons well into his 90's and recorded 14 hole-in-ones. Rummy's greatest joy was meeting his first grandchild, Ada at the young age of 99. He was a man who was larger than life, inspiring so many lives, enjoyed telling stories, and most of all he loved his family and friends. He will forever be loved as an adoring husband, coach, mentor, and friend who will be missed, and most of all remembered.Funeral Mass will be 12:00pm Friday, June 7, 2024 at Ss. Tom was the 2nd oldest of eight children. In 1973 he graduated from Mankato High School.Tom worked as a union carpenter and millwright until completing his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 1987.He married his wife, Cindy (Schaible) in June 1977 and together raised two children, Isaac and Ann. Tom was a loving husband and father. He continued to enjoy woodworking and built beautiful wooden boats. Canoe camping trips on the river with his extended family were a highlight of many summers.His engineering career took the family to many different places including Toronto, Ontario for 3 years. He learned great BBQ skills during his years in Memphis, TN and was an excellent cook. He retired with his wife of 46 years near Knoxville, TN.Tom is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Isaac and Ann (Melissa); siblings, Michael Vermeersch (Pat), Catherine Miyamoto, Kay Cole (Jim), Joseph Vermeersch (Kathy), Charles Vermeersch (Mary Ann), Liz Vermeersch. Matthew (Matt) Ray Ites, born March 26, 1974, lost his battle with ALS on May 20, 2024. He was 50 years young. Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents (Larry and Marsha Ites), his siblings Lisa (Doug) Boomgarden, Mindy Abello, Laura Buss, and Mikaela Clark, and his five children Darien Flynn, Ethan Ites, Bailey Ites, Taylor Schultz, and Cylie Ites. Matt spent most of his adult life doing things for others. He worked construction for many years including rebuilding homes/doing roofing after Hurricane Andrew, road construction, and driving truck. Whenever someone needed help with a construction project, car repair, or just needed a helping hand, he was often first to help out. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2018 and fought a long and brave battle. He loved his family, taking things apart to figure out how they worked, and, sometimes, putting them back together.

They moved to Mankato in 1978 where Bob was the store Manager and Pharmacist with Walgreens. Sharon began working at the Boot and Shoe store in the Mankato Mall in 1978. In 1980, Sharon began a lengthy career helping children and teachers as a Special Education Paraprofessional for ISD 77. Roosevelt Elementary school in west Mankato and later Hoover Elementary in upper North Mankato saw Sharon bring her organizational skills, patience, and love for helping kids with various levels of learning disabilities. A strong advocate for "her kids", Sharon also worked hard with the Minnesota School Employees Association to insure the best for Paraprofessionals.Throughout her life Sharon was a devoted, dedicated wife and mother. Supporting and leading her family, Sharon was heavily involved in youth sports. Whether coaching T-Ball, driving the boys to all levels of sporting events and practices, organizing parents to support their teams, or just "keeping book" Sharon was always there. For many years she worked side by side with her husband Bob in support of his roles with the Mankato Area Youth Baseball Association (MAYBA) and Mankato chapter of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC). In 2022 Sharon was recognized by the Mankato Area Bowling Hall of Fame for her many years of bowling and supporting bowling in Mankato.Sharon enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing cards, golfing, bowling, and attending Maverick hockey games. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities, wherever they were; and she relished every moment she got with her "Littles"; her five great grandchildren.She especially loved her family and treasured hosting family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas for many years when the boys, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would all be home. His parents divorced when he was young and his mother married Emery Meschke. Gene grew up in the Morristown, Mankato, and Rapidan areas before settling in Rapidan in 1962. He graduated from Rapidan High School in 1967, having participated in concert and marching band. Throughout high school, he worked for Titrud's Service in Rapidan. In 1969, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Most of his Navy years were spent in Meridian, MS. He was honorably discharged in 1973, returning home to Rapidan and continued working at Titrud's Service.On June 28, 1975, he married Charlotte V. Quamme at Rapidan. Two children were born of this union, Terry and Helen. In 1979, Gene bought Titrud's Service and started the Country Garage. Over the next 45 years, he farmed, worked as a mechanic and did DOT truck/trailer inspections. One of his dreams was fulfilled in 2002 when he was able to build his own shop. He especially enjoyed restoring farm equipment.Gene enjoyed attending car and tractor shows, especially Ruttle's Roll-Ins during the 1990's and he rarely missed the annual Butterfield Threshing Bee and Pioneer Power.Gene had a love for German Shepherds adopting 7 of them since 1987. His dogs were "his boys" and his constant companions.Gene was a deacon, usher, and served on various committees at the churches he attended. He always made people smile and laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. In 1962 he received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa.Bob worked in sales at Allis Chalmers from 1954-1962, as a Professor at Arizona State University from 1962-1964 and Professor in Business at Mankato State University for 29 years from 1964-1993. David Wayne Wartenberg, 79, of Red Wing, died Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Lake City Care Center. He was born on September 24, 1944, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota to Donald and Margaret (Dobie) Wartenberg and raised on the family farm near Amboy, MN. He graduated from Amboy High School and then attended Mankato State College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. In 1973, he married Kathy Wersal in Souix Falls, SD and they had one daughter, Erica Wartenberg. They later divorced. He was employed at Jostens in Red Wing and later for Unisys and North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis as a system analyst. After he retired from North Memorial, he faithfully continued to volunteer there every week for many years. David loved to volunteer for the Diabetes Association at the Minnesota State Fair and other events. He was an avid Minnesota Gopher and Minnesota Twins fan.David is survived by his daughter, Erica Wartenberg; step-son Jason and his wife and children; special friend, Sherry Oleson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wartenberg; two nieces, Nancy (Jonathan) Williams and Brenda (Tye) Yohannes along with other relatives and friends. Lindsey went on to receive her BSN degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in 2019. Since then Lindsey has been a registered nurse at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, in the medical/thoracic unit.Lindsey was a precious soul and a sweet, caring young woman who was a joy to have in our lives. Her beautiful smile and sense of humor could brighten anyone's day. We were told her patients appreciated her sincere kindness and wrote notes expressing their gratitude. The sun and the beach called to her and always boosted her spirits. Lindsey enjoyed hiking, bicycling, traveling, and being outdoors. Growing up Lindsey loved to dance and was active in Dance Express and Orchesis dance teams. She loved all animals. Ravin, Willow, Gohan, and Matilda, were her most recent loves. She graduated from Karlstad High School and Minneapolis School of Business. Lois was united in marriage to Vern Berglin on August 24, 1963, in Minneapolis. Lois worked at Alumacraft and Metallurgy both based in Minneapolis.She enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.Lois is survived by her husband, Vern; two daughters, Kristin Berglin and Katie Berglin; grandson Alexander (Becky) Berglin; two brothers, Harvey Bakke and Willie Bakke; nieces and nephews.Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Mankato resident David M. (Doc) Peik died at home on May 25, 2024. A native of Albert Lea, David was the son of Lowell and Florence (Martin) Peik. He was born June 27, 1943 and attended school in Albert Lea. Upon graduation he joined the Navy and served as a corpsman. David served during the Bay of Pigs Incident in Cuba and also served two extended tours at Vietnam as a corpsman of Marines.David graduated from Grinnell University in Iowa with a degree in nursing and worked over 30 years as a nurse. He taught firearms safety for many years and in recent years lectured at Dakota Meadows Middle School about his Vietnam service.He also served on the National Board of Trout Unlimited, helped start the Albert Lea Community Theather, served as technical director for Merely Players productions, helped start the Mankato Veterans Court, also serving as a mentor there. He also helped start the Albert Lea chapter of Pheasants Forever while living there after Vietnam.David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steve, his son Daniel and his ex-wife Audrey Severson.He is survived by his significant other Paula Baumberger, his daughter Valarie Mooney and her family, a cousin Nancy (Walt) Seiler, his sister-in-law Linda Peik and two nephews Sam and Matt Peik.A memorial service is being planned. JOSH DAVID LANDRUM, age 44 of North Mankato passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.Born on January 14, 1980 in Mankato, Josh was the son of Mike and Kay (Meister) Landrum. He attended Waterville-Elysian-Morristown school along with Waseca High School. Josh married Angie Rosenthal on April 30, 2005, and together they had two beautiful daughters, Kiera (17) and Kayla (11). They later divorced. Josh worked for Hy-Vee Grocery Stores for over 25 years, filling multiple positions at their locations in Waseca, Owatonna, and Mankato. Most recently, he was a baker at the Mankato location. Josh loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and his dogs, but more than those he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and being a help to others in need.Josh is survived by two daughters, Kiera and Kayla Landrum of Waseca; father, Mike Landrum of Owatonna; brother Ryan (Katie) Landrum of Waterville; nephew Taylor Landrum; niece Clare Landrum; and his former spouse Angie Landrum of Waseca. KENNES C. HUNTLEY 1932-2024Kennes Calvin Huntley, age 92, of Orange Park, FL and former long-time resident of the Mankato, MN area died of complications leading to heart failure, May 24, 2024, at Orange Park Hospital.Ken Huntley was born in Toeterville, Iowa, to Kennes F. and Leona M. (Brandt) Huntley. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa High School in 1950 and served in the Air Force from 1951-55. He graduated from Austin Junior College in 1958 and received a BS degree in business from Mankato State University in 1960 followed by a MS degree in 1962. He was united in marriage to Mary I. Hesla in 1962 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato and went on to earn his PhD from the University of Iowa College of Business in 1967. His career in education began at Carpenter, Iowa high school in 1960, progressed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth and culminated at Minnesota State University, College of Business, Mankato where he retired as professor emeritus in 1995. Always interested in blending business theory with practical application; he served as the Director of Educational Services for the American College of Life Underwriters in Bryn Mawr, PA and worked with the New York Life Company in NYC. He studied insurance operations with the St. Paul Companies in St. Paul and Federated Insurance in Owatonna, MN. Ken also held a Visiting Professorship at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX from 1987-88 where he taught insurance courses and published several professional articles. During his career he was awarded the designation of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He was a Journal Author Award judge for the Journal of Financial Services Professionals and also served as an NASD securities arbitrator.Ken was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, North Mankato, MN where he served as the first Council President and in a variety of roles. Over the years he enjoyed membership in Sertoma Club, Board member of the Lake Washington Improvement Association, Washington Township Treasurer, and volunteered with such organizations as, Open Door Health Center, Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation Fund Drive, Lutheran Campus Ministry, representative on local Boards of the ELCA, Glenwood Cemetery, YMCA, Wellington Townhome Association, and served as an election judge. More recently he volunteered at Advent Lutheran Church, Orange Park, FL.Above all, Ken enjoyed time spent with family either at the cabin in northern Minnesota or traveling the US, Europe, and the Caribbean. He was an ardent fan of all his grandchildren's activities, attending many dance recitals and sporting events. A true farmer at heart, he was happiest outdoors working around the yard. He could always be counted on to help with home improvement projects, car restoration endeavors, landscaping and gardening. He was known for his sense of humor, ability to laugh at himself and his rhyming skills which were often used to acknowledge special family occasions. His smile and generous spirit will be truly missed.He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter Kendy (Brian) Bibbs of Firestone, CO, grandchildren Griffin (Kelli) and Samantha; son, Cal (Tami Schull) of Lakeville, MN, grandchildren Taylor and Cade; sister-in-law, Verlys Huntley of Emmons, MN; brother-in-law Albert Hesla of Orange Park, FL; many nieces and nephews. Betty Jane Peterson, age 77, went home to the Lord on May 11, 2024. She was born in Tyler, MN and graduated from Tracy High School in 1964. She moved to Minneapolis where she met and married her husband, Richard Peterson. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where their two children, Michael and Jennifer, were born. In 2000, Betty moved to Seattle to be closer to her grandchildren. She was a fun and loving Grandma to seven grandkids. ROGER LEON HANSON, age 91, of Waseca, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar, MN. Born on August 26, 1932, in Minneapolis, he was the son of Holger and Louise (Sutter) Hanson. Roger graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis with the class of 1950. Roger was united in marriage to Helen Jean Postler on July 24, 1954, in Birnamwood, Wisconsin. He joined the Air Force after high school, and after four years of service with an honorable discharge, and a special accommodation for "remaining calm and assisting in the maintenance of good order and discipline" during a flooding crisis at the base, he furthered his education at Northwestern Television, studying Electronic and TV repair, receiving a certificate as a Television and Radio Mechanic in 1955. Roger began his working career in electronics at EF Johnson Company, and later also worked in an electronics circuit board printing company in Waseca. As an entrepreneur he then owned and operated several small businesses which included a dairy delivery business, Hanson's Cheese House, Hanson's Pizza, Lindsey Water Softeners and a Fireplace store. He started driving truck in 1981 but decided that he wanted to stay closer to home, so he then chose his own rig in 1982, after which he primarily hauled grain from local farmers to the grain mills. He loved his work hauling grain, and did so for 32 years until 2013! Roger enjoyed camping, fishing, playing softball, managing a women's softball league, and riding motorcycle. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. Roger is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Jean; children: Pam (John) Riederer of St. George, UT, Carrie (Robb) Archie of Buffalo, WY, Becky (Mike) Lee of Faribault, MN, John (Kathleen) Hanson of Hastings, MN, Julie (Matthew) Proehl of Spicer, MN; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
